A busy and exciting social program has been developed to give delegates and their companions an opportunity to take advantage of the unique and varied attractions available in this beautiful city.
We suggest that international delegates plan to stay a few extra days in Australia before or after the Conference to enable them to get to know this magnificent country.

An invitation is extended to all delegates to attend the Welcome Reception to be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.  Renew old friendships and make new acquaintances as we welcome you to Melbourne.
Additional tickets: A$65.00

Conference Dinner (Optional)

The following event is not included in the registration fee for Delegates. If you require tickets to these events please complete the Section D of your Registration Form. Please note that payments for tickets are non-refundable at Monday 1 June 2009.

Flemington Racecourse, the home of the famous Melbourne Cup Carnival, will be the venue for the Dinner - one of the social highlights of the Conference. Guests will be treated to a sumptuous three course meal and fine Australian wines with the twinkling backdrop of the Melbourne skyline by night.

Conference Dinner Speaker

Brad PillansBrad Pillans is a Professorial Fellow in the Research School of Earth Sciences at The Australian National University in Canberra. He is President of the Australian & New Zealand Geomorphology Group and Vice-President of the Geological Society of Australia. He is well known for his research on New Zealand Quaternary stratigraphy and the geochronology of regolith-landform evolution in Australasia. However, Brad describes his main research interest as “the geomorphology of nice places”.


 

How to get to the Conference Dinner

By Tram

Delegates who wish to travel by tram are encouraged to take route 57, departing Melbourne CBD from the corner of Flinders Street and Elizabeth Street. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes. This service runs approximately every 15 minutes and stops at Flemington Racecourse (stop 30). Please allow for a 10 minute walk to make your way to the venue (The Peak). Follow the blue line marked on the roadway to access the room. The tram will cost you approximately A$7.00 . Please note ticket machines on the tram only take coins. Tram tickets can be pre-purchased from local Newsagencies. A return service is available, via the same route. Trams depart every 20 minutes, last tram departs at 0033.

By Taxi / Car

Complimentary parking is available onsite for those delegates wishing to drive to the venue.

Flemington Racecourse is approximately 10 km north-west of the Melbourne CBD, a taxi service will cost you approximately A$20.00. Why not consider sharing a taxi with your colleagues? The travel price becomes approximately A$5.00 each way.

Taxi access is via Flemington Drive (main entrance on Epsom Rd). Follow the 'blue line' marked on the roadway to access the Peak Room.

Whilst the event organisers will advise the taxi companies of this event, it is recommended that you pre-book your return trip. The taxi phone number is 13 CABS. Please note that after 2200 hours Victorian Taxis require pre-payment upon entry into the taxi.

By Train

Delegates are advised that a public train service is not available direct to Flemington Racecourse.
