Funding

The International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG/AIG) offers a number of grants for YOUNG GEOMORPHOLOGISTS (under 35 yrs old) who are willing to take part in the 7th International Conference on Geomorphology (Melbourne, Australia, 6-11 July 2009). The grants are offered to Young Geomorphologists from:

The funds allocated are 12,500 euros from the IAG/AIG plus 1000 euros from the French Geomorphology Group (GFG). In recognition of the outstanding research carried out by the French geomorphologist Jean Tricart in Latin America, Africa and Asia, one of the grant holders from these regions will be designated as the Tricart Scholar.

The Seventh IAG Conference on Geomorphology (ANZIAG) in Melbourne in July 2009 will be on the theme “Ancient Landscapes - Modern Perspectives”. For the first time in the history of the International Association of Geomorphologists the International Conference will be held in the Southern Hemisphere, on an ancient piece of Gondwanaland.

The Conference will provide a venue for geomorphologists working in all branches of the discipline to present their own work, to hear the work of others, and to interact with colleagues from around the globe. In keeping with the location of the Conference, there will be a special session on Southern Hemisphere/Gondwana Geomorphology. Conference sessions will cover the major traditional themes in Geomorphology as well as new and developing fields such as Chronometrics and Cosmogenic Dating, Terrestrial Laser Scanning, and the Geomorphological Impact of Armed Conflict.

The Conference is being hosted by the Australian and New Zealand Geomorphology Group Inc. (ANZGG) and will showcase the work of geomorphologists in both countries. Associated with the Conference will be field trips both before and after the main event in Melbourne.
For further information on the Conference, please visit the IAG/AIG website http://www.geomorph.org/ and the Conference website http://www.geomorphology2009.com

The IAG/AIG is willing to help Young Geomorphologists to attend to the Conference by providing a financial support. The amount of the grants will depend on the applicant’s place of residence and estimated financial need. Applicants should have a special interest and research experience in the themes of the Conference, to be proved by their CV.

Candidates for GRANTS are requested to submit the following documents before 15 April 2009:
- Application form (see below)
- Short CV (maximum 2 pages long), including up to 10 papers related to the Conference themes
- Abstract submitted to the Conference*.
* Applicants who have not submitted an abstract by the due deadline (9 February 2009) are anyhow entitled to send one together with the application form for IAG grant (specifying the session where they wish to have it included). Those successful in obtaining a grant, will have their abstract included in the Conference Programme for Poster presentation.

The above mentioned documents should be submitted to Mauro Soldati soldati@unimore.it.

The selection of candidates will be carried out by a Commission appointed by the IAG/AIG Executive Committee. For further information on the IAG/AIG Grants, feel free to contact the IAG/AIG Training Officer.
